Photos of Kauai, Hawaii, taken with a $4 disposable camera. My good digital camera passed away, so I tried an experiment: What can I do with a disposable camera? The shots below were taken on a one-day visit to Kauai with a Kodak Funsaver camera (ASA 800) purchased for $3.98 at the Kauai Wal-Mart. Of the 27 frames, I discarded 3 as being repetitive. The rest I edited only slightly. For the most part, the shots you see below came directly from the camera.

—Photog (3/7) This was a fascinating experiment because I was cutting photography down to its essentials. The pix from the disposable are even more remarkable when you look at the hi-def version. The focus was remarkably clear, even though it was a fixed focus camera. What was interesting to me is that the film in the camera was ASA 800; yet all of my photos in a variety of lighting conditions came out fine. This is apparently an essential difference between film and digital. Film seems to know when to stop responding and not get overexposed. I'm going to have to give film more consideration. The only trouble is the cost: about $12 for 27 frames (camera+developing+CD). I can't do that too often. —Photog (3/8) | ||
